THE LANCASTER FRESH WATER PIRATES

Oh; the Lancaster Pirates are better than they used to be,
Better than they used to be, Better than they used to be,
The Fresh Water Pirates, are better than they used to be,
Many long years ago.

Chorus

Many long years ago, Many long years ago
The Lancaster Pirates are better than they used to be,
Better than they used to be, Better than they used to be,
The Fresh Water Pirates are better than they used to be,
Many long years ago.

Our Chief loves salt and he struck for the Seashore,
He struck for the seashore, he struck for the seashore,
Our Chief loves salt and he struck for the Seashore,
Many long years ago.-Cho.

A big shark got him but it found he was a pirate,
It found he was a pirate it found he was a pirate,
A big shark got him but it found he was a -pirate,
For be kicked until it let him go.-Cho.

Our Chief went fishing, and he saw a German sub,
He saw a German Sub, He saw a German Sub,
Our Chief went fishing 'till he saw a German Sub,
Then to land he resolved to go.---Cho. 2.

THE SUSQUEHANNA PIRATES

Tune: "Swanee River"
"Dedicated to Williamson's Fresh Water Pirates"

'Way down the Susquehanna River,
Down toward the Bay,
There's where the Pirates journey ever,
There's where they love to play,
All up and down the rocky River,
Gladly they roam,
All seeking joyous recreation,
Far from the work at home.

Chorus

All the world seems glad and cheering
Everywhere we roam,
Oh! Pirates how our hearts grow cheerful,
Far from the work at home.
Great Haunted Tavern on the hillside,
There's where the Pirates stay,
Old Ghost so safely locked in the closet,
Can't scare the brave boys away,
Mt. Johnson Island in the river,
Rock bound they say,
Don't stop the mighty torrent flowing
On to the great Salt Bay.-Cho.

All round the hills and vales we've wandered,
Courting health and fun,
There many happy days we've squandered,
Many the songs we've sung.
Those Pumpkin Pie*. and Roasted Oysters,
Happy were we,
Hail Chief of all the Fresh Water Pirates,
Long as his rule may be.-Cho. 3.

IT'S A LONG WAY TO LANCASTER

Tune: "It's a Long Way to Tipperary"

Down Broadway came a Pirate, on a Christmas Eve,
He had sold his cattle sewed the money in his sleeve,
Stores were full of ladies, and the streets rang out with song,
When our Pirate got excited and he shouted to the throng.

Chorus

It's a long way down to Lancaster, it's a long way to go,
It's a long way down to Lancaster, to the sweetest girl I know,
Good-by New York and Broadway, Farewell Madison Square,
It's a long long way to Lancaster, But my heart's right there

Ladies down in Lancaster, for beauty are renowned,
Pirates like to tell it, and pass tho word around,
This our noted Pirato hurrying home for Christmas Day,
Sure thought he had the sweetest girl in Lancaster, Pa.

When a man from Broadway, lands in Lancaster so fair,
He realizes fully, he's nearer Heaven there,
Streets so paved with gold, and the houses are so fine,
Bread and meat are all so sweet, the water like grape wine.-Cho. 4.

OH! CHIEF PIRATE

We are the Pirates, Fresh Water Pirates,
Come and join our band,
For winter days will soon be o'er, soon be o'er, soon be o'er,
For winter days will soon be oer,
Come and join our band.

LET THE REST OF THE WORLD GO BY

With some one like you, a pal good and true
I'd like to leave it all behind and go and find
Some place that's known to God alone,
Just a spot to call our own.
We'll find perfect peace, where joys never cease,
Out there beneath a kindly sky,
We'll build a sweet little nest somewhere in the west,
And let the rest of the world go by.

PUT ON YOUR OLD GREY BONNET

Put on your old grey bonnet with the blue ribbon on it,
While I hitch old Dobbin to the shay,
And through the fields of clover
We'll drive in to Dover on our golden wedding day.

CARRY ME BACK TO OLD VIRGINNY

Carry me back to old Virginny,
There's where the cotton and the corn and potatoes grow;
There's where the birds warble sweet in the springtime;
There's where'the old darkey's heart am long'd to go.
Where's where I labor'd so hard for old Massa,
Day after day in the field of yellow corn;
No place on earth do I love more sincerely Than old Virginny,
the State where I was born.

Chorus: Repeat first four lines.

Carry me back to old Virginny,
There let me live 'till I wither and decay,
Long by the old Dismal Swamp have I wander'd
There's where this old darkey's life will pass away.
Massa and Missis have long gone before me
Soon we will meet on that bright and golden shore,
There we'll be happy and free from all sorrow,
There's where we'll meet and we'll never part no more.

MY WILD IMSH ROSE

If you listen, I'll sing you a sweet little song
Of a flower that's now drooped and dead,
Yet dearer to me yes, than all of its mates,
Tho' each Holds aloft its proud head.
'Twas given to me by a girl that I know
Since we've met, faitb, I've known no repose,
She is dearer by far than the world's brightest star
And I call her my wild Irish Rose.

Chorus:

My wild Irish Rose,
The sweetest flowr that grows,
You may search everywhere,
but none can compare
With my wild Irish Rose;
My wild Irish Rose,
The dearest flow'r that grows
And some day for my sake,
she may let me take
The bloom from my wild Irish Rose.

WHEN IT'S SPRINGTIME IN THE ROCKIES

When it's Springtime in the Rockies
I am coming back to you,
Little sweetheart of the mountains,
With your bonny eyes of blue;
Once again I'll say "I love you",
While the birds sing all the day,
When it's Springtime in the Rockies,
In the Rockies, far away.

MY MARYLAND

Your land and my land will be our land one day;
Bright bars and white stars leading both on our way
Our one flag forever when war and hatred have gone,
So, "Glory, glory hallelujah!" We'll sing as we go marching on!

I'VE GOT RINGS ON MY FINGERS

Sure, I've got rings on my fingers,
Bells on my toes,
Elephants to ride upon,
My little Irish Rose,
So come to your nabob,
And next Patrick's Day,
Be Mistress Mumbo-Jumbo
Jig-jiboo J. O'Shea.

MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME

The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home,
'Tis summer, the darkies are gay;
The corn-top's ripe and the meadows' in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day.
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy and bright;
By-n-by hard times comes a knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, good-night!

Chorus:

Weep no more, my lady,
0 weep no more to-day!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the old Kentucky home, far away.

OH! DIDN'T HE RAMLE
Oh! didn't be ramble, ramble!
He rambled all around, in and out the town;
Oh! didn't he ramble, ramble.
He rambled 'till the butchers cut him down.

TWO LITTLE GIRLS IN BLUE

Two little girls in blue, lad, two little girls in blue,
They were sisters, we were brothers, and learned to love the two,
And one little girl in blue, lad, who won your father's heart,
Became your mother, I married the other, but we have drifted
apart.

MOONLIGHT AND ROSES

Moonlight and roses, Bring wonderful meni'ries of you
My heart reposes, In beautiful thoughts so true
June-light discloses, Love's olden dream sparkling anew
Moonlight and roses, Bring memories of you.

HONEY BOY

Honey Boy I hate to see you leaving
Honey Boy you know my heart is grieving
When you itre sailing, sailing o'er the sea, Honey Boy, Honey Boy
And if you should take a notion
To come sailing home across the ocean Honey Dear, never fear, I'll be waiting, waiting, waiting for you
Honey Boy.

JUST ONE GIRL

Just one girl, just one girl,
There are others, I know, but they're not my pearl.
Sun or rain, she is just the same,
I'd be happy forever with just one girl.

SCHOOL DAYS

School days, school days, dear old golden rule days
Reading and 'riting and 'rithmetic,
Taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick
You were my queen in calico
I was your bashful barefoot beau,
And you wrote on my slate I love you Joe
- When we were a couple of kids.

SWEET ADELINE

Sweet Adeline, My Adeline, At night dear heart.
For you I pine, In all my dreams, Your fair face beams;
You're the flower of my heart, Sweet Adeline.

IF I KNOCK THE "L" OUT OF KELLY
If I knock the "L" out of Kelly,
It would still be Kelly to me;
Sure a single "L Y" or a double "L Y"
Should look just the same to an Irishman's eye.

Knock off an "L" from Killarney,
Still Killarney it always will be,
But if I knock the "L" out of Kelly,
Sure he'd knock the "L" out of me.

SWEETEST STORY EVER TOLD

Tell me do you love me?
Tell me softly, sweetly, as of old!
Tell me, that you love me,
For that's the sweetest story ever told.
Tell me, do you love me?
Whisper softly sweetly, as of old,
Tell me that you love me,
For that's the sweetest story ever told.

DAISY BELL
Daisy, Daisy, Give me your answer, do!
I'm half crazy, All for the love of you!
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage,
But you'll look sweet, upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two!

WHERE THE RIVER SHANNON FLOWS

There's a pretty spot in Ireland
I always claim for my land,
Where the fairies and the blarney
Will never, never die.
It's the land of the shallalah,
My heart goes back there daily
To the girl I left behind me
When we kissed and said goodbye.

Chorus:

Where dear old Shannon's flowing,
Where the three leaved Shamrocks grow,
Where my heart is I am going,
To my little Irish rose.
And the moment that I meet her
With a hug and kiss I'll greet-her,
For there's not a colleen sweeter,
Where theriver Shannon flows

HOME ON THE RANGE

Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play;
Where seldom is heard, a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Chorus:
Home, Home on the Range,
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard, a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

How often at night when the heavens are bright
With the lights from the glittering stars,
Have I stood there amazed and asked as I gazed,
If their glory exceeds that of ours.

MOTHER MACHREE

There's a spot in me heart which no colleen may own,
There's a depth in me soul never sounded or known;
There's a place in my mem'ry,
my life, that you fill, No other can take it, no one ever will.

Chorus:

Sure I love the dear silver that shines in your hair,
And the brow that's all furrowed, and wrinkled with eaze.
I kiss the dear fingers, so toil-worn for me,
Oh, God! bless you and keep you, Mother Macbree.

LOVE SENDS A LITTLE GIFT OF ROSES

Love sends a little gift of roses,
Breathing a pray'r unto my posies,
Torn from my heart as twilight closes,
Asking this, only this,
One heart to grow a little tender,
Two eyes to glow with love's own splendour,
Two lips to give in sweet surrender
Just a kiss, Just a kiss.

SILVER THREADS AMONG THE GOLD

Darling, I am growing old,
Silver threads among the gold
Shine upon my brow today.
Life is fading fast away;
But, my darling, you will be, will be,
Always young and fair to me.
Yes, my darling, you will be
Always fair and young to me.

Chorus:

Darling, I am growing old,
Silver threads among the gold
Shine upon my brow today,
Life is fading fast away.

I WANT A GIRL

I want a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad,
She was a pearl and the only girl that daddy ever had.
A good old-fashioned girl with heart so true,
One who loves nobody else but you,
I want a girl, just like the girl that married dear old dad.

WHEN YOU WERE SWEET SIXTEEN

I love you as I never loved before,
Since first I met you on the village green
Come to me, or my dream of love is o'er
I love you as I loved you,
When you were sweet,
When you were Sweet Sixteen.

LET ME CALL YOU SWEETHEART

Let me call you sweetheart,
I'm in love with you,
Let me hear you whisper
That you love me too,
Keep the love-light burning
In your eyes so true,
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you.

LOVE'S OLD SWEET SONG

Once in the dear dead days beyond recall,
When on the world the mists began to fall,
Out of the dreams that rose in happy throng,
Low to our hearts, love sang an old sweet song;
And in the dusk where fell the fire-light gleam,
Softly it wove itself into our dream.

Chorus:

Just a song at twilight when the lights are low,
And the flick'ring shadows softly come and go;
Though the heart be weary, sad the day and long,
Still to us at twilight comes love's old song,
Comes love's old sweet song.

Even today we hear love's song of yore,
Deep in our hearts it dwells for evermore;
Footsteps may falter, weary grow the way,
Still we can bear it at the close of day;
So till the end when life's dim shadows fall,
Love will be found the sweetest song of all.

ANNIE LAURIE
Maxwelton braes are Bonnie, Where early fa's the dew
And it's there that Annie Laurie Gie'd me her promise true
Gie'd me her promise true, Which ne'er forgot will be
And for Bonnie Annie Laurie I'd lay me down and dee.

Her brow is like the snow drift, her neck is like the swan
Her face it is the fairest, that e'er the sun shone on,
That e'er the sun shone on, And dark blue is her e'e.
And for Bonnie Annie Laurie I'd lay me down and dee.

SMILES

There are smiles that make us happy,
There are smiles that make us blue,
There are smiles that steal away the teardrops.
As the sunbeams steal away the dew
There are smiles that have a tender meaning
That the eyes of love alone may see
But the smiles that fill my life with sunshine,
Are the smiles that you give to me.

IN THE EVENING BY THE MOONLIGHT

In the evening by the moonlight
You could hear those darkies singing;
In the evening by the moonlight
You could hear those banjos ringing;
How the old folks would enjoy it;
They would sit all night and listen
As we sang in the evening by the moonlight.

IN THE SHADE OF THE OLD APPLE TREE

In the shade of the old apple tree,
Where the love in your eyes I could see,
When the voice that I heard,
Like a song of a bird,
Seemed to whisper sweet music to me,
I could hear the dull buzz of the bee,
In the -blossoms as you said to me
With a heart that is true
I'll be waiting for you
In the shade of the old apple tree.

WHEN YOU WORE A TULIP

When you wore a tulip, a sweet yellow tulip,
And I wore a big red rose,
When you caressed me, 'twas then Heaven blessed me,
What a blessing no one knows,
You made life cheerie, when you called me dearie,
'Twas down where the blue grass grows,
Your lips were sweeter than julep, when you wore a tulip
And I wore a big red rose.

BELLS OF SAINT MARY'S

The bells of Saint Mary's ah, hear they are calling
The young loves, the true loves
Who come from the sea.
And so my beloved, when red leaves are falling,
The love bells shall ring out, ring out for you and me.

IT'S A SHORT, SHORT LIFE
(Tune: "Long, Long Trail")
It's a short, short life we live here
So let us sing while we may
With a song for every moment
Of the live-long day
What's the use of looking gloomy
Or what's the use of our tears
When we know a mummy's had no fun
For about three thousand years.
WHEN YOU AND I WERE: YOUNG, MAGGIE

I wandered today to the hill, Maggie,
To watch the scene below,
The creek and the old rusty mill, Maggie,
Where we sat in the long, long ago,
The green grove is gone from the hill, Maggie,
Where first the daisies sprung;
The old rusty mill is still, Maggie,
Since you and I were young.

Chorus:

And now we are aged and gray, Maggie,
The trials of life nearly done,
Let us sing of the days that are gone, Maggie,
When you and I were young.
Roamin' in the gloamin' on the bonnie banks o' Clyde,
Roamin' in the gloamin' wi' my lassie by my side.
Roamin' in the gloomin'wi' my lassie by my side.
When the sun has gone to rest,
That's the time that we love best,
Oh, it's lovely roamin'in the gloamin'!

OLD BLACK JOE

Gone are the days when my heart was young and gay,
Gone are my friends from the cotton-fields away;
Gone from the earth to a better land, I know,
I hear their gentle voices calling, "Old Black Joe".

Chorus:

I'm coming, I'm coming, for my head is bending low;
I bear those gentle voices calling. "Old Black Joe"!

A PERFECT DAY

When you come to the end of a perfect day,
And you sit alone with your thoughts,
While the chimes ring out with a carol gay,
For the joy that the day has brought,
Do you think what the end of a perfect day
Can mean to a tired heart,
When the sun goes down with a flaming ray
And the dear friends have to part?

Well' this is the end of a perfect day,
Near the end of a journey, too,
But it leaves a thought that is big and strong,
With a wish that is kind and true.
For mem'ry has painted this perfect day
With colors that never fade,
And we find, at the end of a perfect day
The soul of a friend we've made.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crownthy good with brotherhood,
From sea to shining sea.

Refrain:
America! America! God shed His grace on thee!

0 beautiful for pilgrim feet,
When stern, impassioned stress
A thorough-fare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America! God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

Refrain:
America! America! God shed His grace on thee!

AULD LANG SYNE

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne?
We'll take a cup o'kindness yet
For auld lang syne.
