Eckman-Kunkle Graveyard

Precursor to cemetery at Pequea Reformed, now Zion Reformed, Sawmill Road, Strasburg township.
Likely burial ground of the early Winters family which was intermarried with the Seitz/Sides and Eckman families. Probable burial location of Imm. John Jacob Winternheimer 1702-1781 and wife Anna(Friesen) and Peter Seitz abt 1712-1787 and wife Barbara. Many of the later generations of these families are buried at Zion Reformed.
The Eckman family donated the land for the church and present cemetery and many Eckman families lived across the road from the church. Burials in the present church cemetery began about 1795.
This graveyard is being cared for by the neighbor and is in good condition. There were probably seven or eight rows of graves here at one time. It is likely that more stones could be found under the surface but it is unlikely anyone has probed for lost stones.
