Albert Martin

Albert Martin was born in 1855 near the Pequa and Providence township line. Albert was born to Mary Gochenour 1836-1916. Mary appears to have been unmarried at the time.

The 1860 census shows Albert Martin living in the home of Henry Eckman and his wife Keziah (Gochenour). Keziah is Albert's aunt.
Albert married Elizabeth Kreider Groff about 1880. Elizabeth was likely previously married to Christian M. Lehman who died in 1879. Albert and Elizabeth had three children between 1881 and 1885. Elizabeth died two months after the birth of her third child. Albert at age 30, was widowed and the father of two small children and an infant.

The eldest child was named Henry and it is reasonable to assume that this child was the namesake of "Uncle" Henry Eckman, the man who raised Albert.

Albert was a farm laborer in the vicinity of Herrville and later worked in a tobacco warehouse in Lancaster for many years. He died March 6, 1923 and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Lancaster.
