(The researcher is a multiple descendant of the Huber, Bowman, Barr, Weaver, Good and Neff families.)
The Huber family roots are in the vicinity of Hausen, Canton Zurich, Switzerland. The Hubers were much intermarried with the Bowman(Bauman, Baumann, Buman, etc.), Neff(Naf), Weaver(Weber), Barr(Bear, Bar, etc.) and Good (Gut, Guth) lines.
Many Hubers and Neffs fought and died with Ulrich Zwingli and the Reformed forces against the Catholics at the Battle of Kappel, October 11, 1531. Kappel is a very short distance from Hausen a it is the site of a large Cloister. Today the battlefield is farm acreage and marked by a monument along the road. Nearly across the road from the monument is Naferstrasse.
Adam Neff(NF) served as an "ax-guard under Hans Huber of Tufenbach, and rescued the banner of Zurich at Kappel, for which on March 10, 1533, he received Zurich citizenship for himself, and the Sennhof at Kappel as a free fief (feudal estate) for six years. On July 5, 1550, he received from the Zurich council the newly created Sennhof as a free fief through the partition of the possessions of the Kappel Cloister."(from Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage magazine, Oct.1990, Jane Evans Best, Swiss Roots of the Neff, Weber and Huber Families)
